Carolyn Sechler co-hosts The Nonprofit Journal Live with Dee Suomala radio program and welcomes StreeLightUSA President and CEO Lea Benson.
Lea is a national champion for child sex trafficking victims across the country. As President and CEO of StreetLightUSA she has increased the national reputation of the organization to become well known for its design and ability to make positive change in the lives of child victims age 11-17.
Under her direction StreetLightUSA’s residential facility has gone from its planning stages to a successful program that serves hundreds of girls each year. The residential facility is the country’s largest residential center of its kind and serves as the first strategy StreetLightUSA is employing to fulfill its mission–to transition adolescents from trauma to triumph.
Lea travels throughout the country to talk about the dangers of sex trafficking and to counsel others on the need for greater access to services for the victims.
She has established contact with Attorneys General throughout the country to help them understand the threat that sex trafficking poses in the community.
She works with law enforcement to enhance prevention programs, and works to educate child welfare workers about how to identify and help victims. She also works with the court system to make sure judges have the option to send victims to StreetLightUSA.
She has been asked to speak at national conferences for law enforcement and court personnel as well as organizations who have adopted trafficking as their topic of interest.
